Duradek is the brand most homeowners eventually hear about whether or not they were looking for it. Ask any Canadian contractor what vinyl deck they install and the answer was probably Duradek before they answered. Fifty-two years in continuous operation, family-owned the whole time, and the largest dealer network in North America by a substantial margin. That kind of incumbency is earned, and it's worth assessing honestly.
I spent more time on this review than most because I wanted to be fair to a brand that's genuinely accomplished while still being honest about where it falls short.
Who makes it
Duradek Ltd. is a Canadian manufacturer headquartered in Surrey, BC, family-owned since founding. They opened in 1974 — making them older than the entire residential vinyl decking category as a category. They've installed 193 million square feet of membrane across 643,000-plus projects. 840-plus certified dealers and distributors across North America. There is no other brand in the field that operates at this scale.
Distribution is certified-applicator-only. You cannot purchase Duradek material directly. Installation only happens through trained, authorized installers, and the company is notoriously selective about who gets certified.
What I liked
The track record. Documented Duradek installations from the 1990s and earlier are still performing. The company's case studies include 21-year-old installs that are still waterproofing well even when the wear surface has faded. This kind of longitudinal data does not exist for any newer brand. For homeowners or specifiers who care about field-proven longevity over headline specs, Duradek is the pick almost by default.
The non-prorated warranty. Duradek's Ultra 60 mil line carries a 15-year product warranty. Years 1-10 are non-prorated — full repair or replacement, materials AND labour both covered. Years 11-15 are membrane-only. That years-1-10 structure is genuinely category-leading. Most competitors prorate from year 5 or earlier and exclude labour entirely. Duradek pays for the install fix.
Transferable warranty. Sell the house, the warranty transfers with the property. This affects resale value in a real way and almost no other brand offers it.
Woven polyester scrim backing. Duradek's Ultra line uses a woven backing rather than the fleece (non-woven) backing most competitors use. Installers who weld both consistently report the woven backing is easier to fuse cleanly at seams and less likely to wick moisture if water ever does penetrate the surface. This is a contractor-favorable spec that quietly affects long-term seam reliability.
The 840+ dealer network. Outside of Western Canada, Duradek is often the only vinyl deck brand a homeowner can practically get installed. That's not a knock on competitors — it's the result of fifty years of building distribution. For markets in Eastern Canada, the US Midwest, the South, and parts of the Northeast, Duradek may be the only realistic option.
Pacific Northwest US presence. Duradek Northwest covers Tacoma, Seattle, Alaska, and other PNW markets — strongest US presence in the residential vinyl decking category.
Selective installer certification. This is both a strength and a structural choice. Duradek doesn't certify everyone who applies. Their applicator network is meaningfully more vetted than competitors', which translates into above-average install quality on average.
What I didn't
No published pricing. Duradek does not publish what their material costs, anywhere. Every homeowner gets a bundled quote from a certified applicator, with no breakdown between material, labour, substrate prep, and margin. Industry research puts typical installed cost at $12 to $22 per square foot, but the range is wide and homeowners can't audit which factor is driving their specific quote. This is the single weakest aspect of Duradek's homeowner-facing offering.
No mandated workmanship warranty. The product warranty is excellent. The installation warranty is whatever the individual applicator chooses to offer, and Duradek does not require them to offer one. Since most vinyl deck failures are installation failures rather than membrane failures, this is the gap most homeowners get burned by. You have to ask each Duradek applicator what they personally guarantee, and put it in writing.
60 mil is industry baseline. Duradek's flagship product runs 60 mils thick. That's the industry standard. Newer competitors at 65 and 68 mils are meaningfully thicker. Duradek's own marketing argues that thicker doesn't matter — and they're technically right that it doesn't affect waterproofing — but thickness does affect puncture resistance, wear margin, and install-error forgiveness. On a high-traffic balcony with twenty years of furniture and foot traffic, thicker is better.
Often the most expensive quote. Duradek installs typically come in at the higher end of the bid range. The combination of a respected brand, a selective applicator network, and bundled pricing produces premium quotes. Sometimes that's worth it. Sometimes it's just paying for brand.
Dated colors. Duradek's 27-color lineup is the largest in the category, but many of those patterns have been in the lineup for decades and look it. Their newer designs are competitive with peers but the catalog overall feels more 2005 than 2026.
No DIY option. Certified applicator only. If you're a capable homeowner who wants to source material directly, Duradek isn't going to sell to you.

Bottom line
Duradek deserves its position in the field. Fifty years of documented installs, a non-prorated warranty most competitors can't match, and a dealer network with no peer. The product is genuinely good and the company genuinely stands behind it.
What keeps it out of first place is the homeowner-facing experience: opaque pricing, no mandated workmanship coverage, no DIY pathway, and a product spec that newer competitors have stepped past on thickness. Get a Duradek quote, ask for the material cost separately from labour, ask for the applicator's personal workmanship warranty in writing — and you'll have closed the gaps that the brand itself doesn't.
If you're outside Western Canada or the Pacific Northwest, Duradek is probably your best practical option. Compare against Tufdek where dealers overlap.
